The ecology of Coral
Coral is an ancient, yet living organic matter formed in semi-tropical seas by tiny animals called coral polyps. These up-swelling regions were caused by geological occurrences that took place many years ago. A piece of coral is usually made up of the former homes of many coral polyps. As one polyp dies, another builds its home upon the first. This occurs layer upon layer until a large mass, known as a “coral reef” is formed.
How is coral harvested?
Although formed hundreds or thousands of years ago, coral is by no means a dead mineral. It is actually teeming with life and activity. Most coral minerals are “harvested” – scraped or dredged – from accumulated debris found in and around surrounding living coral reefs. This harvesting process is destructive to the reefs themselves, eliminating the places juvenile coral use as shelter as they grow.
Most coral calcium today comes from environmentally hazardous areas found “under the sea,” which are often contaminated from years of pollution. Coral LLC only offers coral calcium that is obtained from above sea coral minerals, which have been thrust upward above the seafloor to form coral islands. These coral reefs have been purified by centuries of exposure to the energy-producing cosmic rays of the sun, and have not been affected by under water pollution.
All coral mineral products are not the same
Many mineral products on the market today are not all natural, and they do not come from nature. They come from a chemistry laboratory instead. Coral LLC’s products and supplements are made from pure coral calcium found in “above sea” coral. This is an all-natural source, and does not contain any harmful additives or flow agents. That is why our label always reads: “EcoSafe ™”.
