1. Cinnamon
The most significant use recently discovered by Dr.
Richard Anderson of the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) is for regulating and normalizing
glucose. Dr. Anderson states, “Cinnamon lowers
glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol by rekindling
the ability of fat and other cells to react to insulin.

Bitter melon
The fruit has also shown the ability to enhance a cell’s
uptake of glucose, to promote insulin release and to
control the effect of insulin. Bitter Melon lowers triglycerides,
normalizes blood fasting glucose and reduces LDL (Bad)
cholesterol. |

3. Gymnema
Sylvestre
According to Harvard Medical School, Gymnema can lower
glucose in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics. Gymnema increases
cell insulin permeability and causes regeneration and/or
revitalization of the residual beta cells in insulin-dependent
Type I diabetics. Gymnema increases the activity of
enzymes responsible for glucose uptake and utilization.

4. Nopal
Nopal lowers blood sugar levels by blocking absorption
of sugar in the intestinal tract. It lowers overall
cholesterol levels, improves the ratio of HDL to LDL
cholesterol and lowers triglycerides by preventing the
conversion of blood sugar into fat and by eliminating
excess bile acids, which would ultimately be converted
to cholesterol. |

Ginseng
American Ginseng (AM) improves diabetes control, reducing
associated risk factors such as hyperlipidemia and hypertension
and ameliorating insulin resistance. It has demonstrated
ability to modulate the rate of absorption of nutrients
from the small bowel. |

Fenugreek
Fenugreek stimulates inslulin synthesis and/or secretion
from the beta pancreatic cells of Langerhans. Fenugreek
seems to work, in part, by correcting altered glucose
transporter (GLUT4) distribution. |

7. Chromium
polynicotinate
Chromium is essential for normal protein, fat, and carbohydrate
metabolism. Chromium is important for energy production
and also plays a key role in regulating appetite, reducing
sugar cravings, and lowering body fat. Chromium helps
insulin metabolize fat, turn protein into muscle, and
