“Jest Chew’n the Cud . . .”
                   with Dr. Bob
Vitamins ‘n stuff: Remember the old Weekly Reader they used to hand out in grade school? Probably not, that was a long time ago. I was in the fourth grade, as I recall, when I first heard about vitamins. I was fascinated. The lead story said that it would soon be possible to get all the nutrition you need for a whole day – from just one tiny little pill. Amazing . . .

How could they squeeze all those potatoes and gravy, and fried chicken, salad and other food into that pill? That was hard to believe. These days everybody knows about vitamins, but there’s still a lot of confusion about them. Such as:
·
Exactly what are vitamins and what are they supposed to do?
·
Does my body really need them? And if so what kind do I need?
  •       Practically every health food store, drug store, etc., has hundreds, even thousands of vitamins of every conceivable kind. Very confusing! Do I hear “help”? Okay, here goes:
  •                Those “one-a-day” brands are not for you. They actually can’t get all that good stuff into a single pill. Besides, those types of product are usually synthetic, produced from petrochemicals. Not very helpful to your body!
  •        Look for ones that are “food form,” produced as closely as possible to the way they came from the soil or sea: unheated, uncooked, un-tampered with.
  •                  Do your research. Read labels. Listen to your body. If your doctor doesn’t really listen to you, fire him or her and get another one. Don’t be pushed into “surgical intervention,” till or unless you “get a second or even third opinion,” from a health professional not connected with the first (or even the second) doctor. Make sure it is someone you feel comfortable with. Remember to pray—God does listen.
